Outlook and Outlook ExpressE-mail Account Configuration

Please use these instructions if you are using Microsoft Windows version Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME or XP.

  1. Push the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your screen, select "Programs", and find "Outlook " or "Outlook Express".
      Click on the program to start it.

      If Outlook attempts to connect to the internet, choose "Work Offline".
      If you get an error message, choose the "Hide" option.

      **** If the e-mail configuration wizard starts up automatically, skip to the "Outlook and Outlook Express E-mail Account Configuration" section below to continue configuring your e-mail account. ****
  2. On the Menu at the top, click on "Tools", then click on "Accounts.."
  3. When the dialog box opens, click on the "Mail" tab at the top.

    In this section, there is a window which displays any previously existing email accounts. Unless you have other active e-mail accounts, it is usually best to delete any existing accounts which may be show in the white window. Do this by:

      1. Clicking on each connection on at a time
      2. Then click the "Remove" button to the right.
      3. Repeat until the window is empty
      4. proceed to the next step

  4. Click the "Add" button, then select "Mail".
  5. Enter the name you would like people to see when you send them an email. This is usually your real name, nickname, family name, etc., not your e-mail address. Then click "Next".
  6. When asked for your e-mail address, enter the address as provided by DTC. Make certain to enter your address exactly as provided, this is case sensitive. Then click Next.
  7. When asked for the e-mail server names, enter "pop.dtccom.net" in the incoming server name box. The outgoing server name will be “smtp.dtccom.net”. The server type, at the top, is POP3. Click "Next".
  8. When asked for the Account Name, enter your username (not your e-mail address), then your password. Make certain to enter these exactly as provided, they are case-sensitive. Do not choose the option for using "Secure Password Authentication". Click "Next"
  9. Click "Next", "Finish", etc., close the dialog box. Congratulations, you have completed e-mail configuration.
