Setting up DTC Dial Up Connections

Please use these instructions if you are using Microsoft Windows version Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME or XP.

  1. Starting at the Desktop, find the "Internet Explorer" icon.
  2. Right-click on the icon, and select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.
  3. When the "Internet Properties" dialog box opens, click on the "Connections" tab.
  4. On this page, there is a section labeled "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network Settings".
In this section, there is a window which displays any previously existing connections. Unless you are supposed to have more than one internet service provider (not likely), it is usually best to delete any existing connections which may be shown within the white window. Do this by:

      1. Clicking on each connection one at a time
      2. Then click the "Remove" button to the right
      3. Repeat until the window is empty
      4. Proceed to the next step.
  5. Near the top of the page, there is a button labeled "Setup...". Click this button to launch the "Internet Connection Wizard".
  6. Click the circle (called a "radio button") next to "I want to set up my internet connection manually...". Then click the "Next" button.
  7. Click the circle next to "I connect through a phone line and a modem". Then click the "Next" button.
  8. Enter the phone number below that corresponds to your county in the "Telephone number" box.
    • Cannon 683-1383
      Dibrell 597-1010
      Smith 683-1383
      DeKalb 683-1383
      Rutherford 409-1383
      Wilson 408-1383
  9. If you have call waiting, follow these steps to disable it during internet sessions:
      1. Enter the following sequence in the "Telephone number" box: *70, followed by the phone number.
For example, if the number given you was 777-8888, you would enter *70 ,7778888 in the box.
The dash in the phone number is optional.
      2. If there is a check mark next to "Use area code and dialing rules", uncheck it by clicking in the small box.
      3. Click the "Next" button.
      4. Enter your user name and password that were provided by DTC. Make certain to enter these exactly as provided, they are case-sensitive.
      5. Then click the "Next" button.
      6. Enter a friendly name for this connection, such as "DTC Online" for instance. This is for you to identify the connection easily.
  10. At this stage, you have completed the initial connection setup process.
If you are asked if you would like to configure an e-mail account at this time:
  11. Select "Yes", then click "Next".

Click "Create a new Internet mail account", then click "Next".
Now, skip to the "Outlook and Outlook Express E-mail Account Configuration" section to continue configuring your e-mail account.
If you are not prompted to create an e-mail account at this time,

  12. Click the "Finish" button to complete the process and close the Internet Connection Wizard.
